From Best Life:
"Nearly 90 percent of the chemicals in the products you slather onto your skin—the body’s largest organ—have never undergone any testing for toxicity. That’s because the Food and Drug Administration doesn’t regulate the safety of ingredients used in cosmetic products. They defer to an industry-funded panel, called the Cosmetics Ingredient Review, which comprises just seven individuals, including a nutritional scientist and…a veterinarian. To date, they have examined a mere 11 percent of the ingredients you use to groom yourself, according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit research organization based in Washington, D.C.
Scientists and toxicologists at EWG recently compared all the ingredients in nearly 25,000 grooming products (information is available online at http://cosmeticdatabase.com/index.php) with lists of potential chemical hazards compiled by 50 scientific regulatory institutions worldwide. Their findings? “Sixty percent of products on the U.S. market contain chemicals that are potential endocrine disrupters,” says Jane Houlihan, vice president of research at EWG, “and a third have ingredients that are likely carcinogens.” In the last 30 years, the United States has banned only eight ingredients from personal-care products, while the European Union has banned almost 400 ingredients by some estimates."
FYI My body wash rate a 5 out of 10 on their hazard scale.
